Should have studied my Greek

There is an entire generation who read technology manuals and instructions like nursery rhymes.
For those of us so challenged, understanding technology is akin to taking an honors course in Physics in Greek.

For the last several days I have provided this quartet, quintet at moments, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, spending many hours in the kitchen to take care of them on a most fundamental level, garnering many thanks for the effort.

I successfully installed a new printer inconveniently hard wired to my desktop.
Been wanting to make it wireless, stumped by the enclosed directions.

We were all gathered round one of their laptops watching the ending of the Division Three Men’s Basketball Semi-Finals, our team, Swarthmore won, when I asked if they could help me convert my printer to wireless.
The Greek-Physics instructions mother’s milk to them and in five minutes my printer was moved to the unobtrusive space it belongs in.
Mission accomplished.

It behooves us to stay connected to one or more representatives of the generation who read technology manuals and instructions like nursery rhymes.
Because for the likes of us, reading Greek-Physics instruction manuals is simply not going to happen in our lifetimes.

Can you define technology and the Internet?

So we got a multitude of questions: What is Squarespace?

Web Meister Responds: It’s come to my attention that I inadvertently copied an ad for Squarespace on my posting.
Please ignore.

Squarespace is the platform on which I build my posts.
It’s not a social media application but exists for writers to make it easier to create blogs w/o being technological geniuses.
Their income is derived from the writers, myself, who pay a setup fee and then an annual fee for their service.

Sorry for the concern it caused.

And this one from Tommie from So Carolina, referencing the post extolling the life force of young people at home.

Dom, I treasured the times that Leigh came home from Harvard.
Moments to remember.
She would gather her close friends from high school and some from college and they would cook a gourmet dinner, eat in the dining room with candle light.
Their laughter was contagious and the merriment went on for hours.
They cleaned up and went on their way into the wee hours.
Some stayed over. (They never mopped the kitchen floor! 😎)

Jake, on the other hand, never spent much time at home when in college. I think those years for a boy are years of transitioning into adulthood even more so than with girls.
When he left for school, that was it.
However, I have to say, as an adult, he is a wonderful, caring soul.
I just remember treasuring every moment they were home from college and knowing that they would never live permanently "at home" again.

It is a bittersweet realization.

Web Meister Responds: A few moments later Tommie followed up with this observation:

Of course. Happy St Pat's weekend.
We have one of the largest celebrations in Columbia in the University District.
When younger, I enjoyed it.
Now, I would rather stay home.
It has grown in size over the years . . . too many people, too much beer.
Guess that is a sign of growing older and wiser.

Web Meister Responds: Nice thoughts to carry around. Thank you, Tommie.

Answer to the Question of the Day:

Can you define technology and the Internet?

Technology is the collection of techniques, skills, methods, and processes used in the production of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation.

Technology can be the knowledge of techniques, processes, and the like, or it can be embedded in machines to allow for operation without detailed knowledge of their workings.

Systems (e. g. machines) applying technology by taking an input, changing it according to the system's use, and then producing an outcome are referred to as technology systems or technological systems.

The wheel was invented circa 4000 BCE.
Zereshk

The simplest form of technology is the development and use of basic tools.
The prehistoric discovery of how to control fire and the later Neolithic Revolution increased the available sources of food, and the invention of the wheel helped humans to travel in and control their environment.

Developments in historic times, including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet, have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale.

The Internet is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies.

The Internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, telephony, and file sharing.

Good Morning on this Monday, the Eighteenth of March.

Today we talked about staying connected with the younger generation.
About the weather and calendar.
We discussed the Squarespace Ooops! Our posting a Squarespace Ad on the face of the blog.
We published a letter from Tommie sharing anecdotes of children getting older and a short note from her regarding St Pat’s Day.
Finally we discussed technology an the Internet.

And now? Gotta go.

See you soon.
